A small world of wonder and strangeness
In the permanent exhibition that explores the richness and diversity of the world, the cabinet of curiosities holds a unique place.
It brings together a collection of unusual objects — anatomical models, insects, crystal vials, animal skeletons — drawn from the museum’s collections and from UCLouvain’s various faculties.
Cabinets of curiosities first appeared in 15th-century Europe. They showcased rare and often unclassifiable items, both natural and man-made, that sparked fascination and awe.
At Musée L, this space invites you to observe without expecting immediate answers — encouraging wonder and reflection on the diversity and complexity of the world around us.
Located on the second floor, as part of the museum’s permanent exhibition.
