The collections from Antiquity contain some 2,000 items, mainly from the Mediterranean region. Some of these are notable for their aesthetic appeal and excellent state of conservation, while other more fragmentary items are of value for the light they throw on a particular technical process. What unites them, however, is a common desire to bring together objects for educational purposes.
Some items derive from old collections bound up with the history of the pre-separation University, while others have been donated since the creation of the Louvain-la-Neuve Museum. All reflect different aspects of ancient civilisations and serve as illustrations of the richness of the multicultural world of Antiquity.
